Looking for Post Solomon Kane Reading

I'm slowly making my way through The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane and I'm looking for some "next read" suggestions. Back when I would / could read a novel in a handful of nights I didn't much like short stories. These days, I'm really appreciating the reoccurring lead character in a series of short stories. It fits well with my current reading habits.

So, any suggestions? I'll be reading on my iPad, but I find between the Kindle app and other formats I can read about 98% of what I want without killing trees or requiring more storage space ;)

  1. If you haven't read the Fafhrd and Gray Mouser stories, then please do so. I was surprised at how good they were.

  3. Some kindle suggestions. They are (in most cases) short novels as opposed to short stories.

Black Amazon of Mars by Leigh Brackett. This one is pretty short, maybe novella length. (Free on Amazon, i think)

The Night of the Long Knives by Fritz Leiber (Free on Project Gutenberg)

Storm over Warlock by Andre Norton (Free on Project Gutenberg)

Island of Nightmare by Francis Stevens (Free on Project Gutenberg)

The Forgotten Planet by Murray Leinster- this one is like 3.99 on Amazon, but worth ever cent; it is pure awesome and I can't recommend it strongly enough.

Anyway, there is a ton of free stuff on Project Gutenberg; if you haven't done so already, go there and check out the Science Fiction bookshelf. As matter of fact, be sure to check PG before you buy anything from prior to 1960 on Amazon; a lot of it is available for free.

  5. If you enjoyed Solomon Kane, take a look at some of Howard's other characters like Bran Mak Morn, Kull or El Borak. Those are available in Kindle format.
