Does Anyone Have Experience With the Lone Wolf Multiplayer Gamebook?

Mongoose publishes the Lone Wolf Multiplayer Gamebook based upon the solo game books of yore.  Any of this blog's readers know anything about it, good or bad?  I here it's a pretty simple stem, and I like simplicity, but I have there is still a little meat on the bones.

I can see there are a crapload of releases for it.  Any suggestions as to what to pick up if I decide to give this a peek?

Do I need experience with the solos to truly enjoy this?

  1. I don't have any experience of the multiplayer version, but I enjoyed the solo gamebooks back in the day. A number of them can be found free -- and legal -- online at Project Aon.

  2. Bought the first two books, read through them but haven't had a chance to play yet. Rules seem pretty similar to the solo books. Not a strong magic system, or good guidance on how write your own adventures. It seemed a little flat to me, but the later books may of fixed this. I liked the d20 Lone Wolf mongoose put out a few years ago better.

  3. It's very simple stuff, to be honest. It tries to make a good fist of keeping it as close to the gamebooks as possible, but it feels a little too simplistic because of this. And considering I like simplistic...

Some people seem to have issues with the combat system as well, but once you get your head around how it works it seems to be okay. You will definitely need more than the core book, probably the Heroes of Magnamund book as well.
