For the evening session, potential DMs outnumbered potential players by 3 to 0. It wasn't that the location wasn't doing business - we just weren't getting players.
For the next attempt, I think I'll go with Swords & Wizardry - less books to lug around. Besides, the wife has given me her blessing for me to try again, even if it means on a weekend. Sacrificing our quality time so I can get some time in behind the screen. God bless her. No, I'm not trying to butter her up, but if I was, do you think it would work? ;)
I think if she slid off a plate and fell on the floor-one side would land first every time...
ReplyDeleteDamn, had I known you were in Brooklyn, I definitely would have made the 45 minute drive from LI for a good session of AD&D.
ReplyDeleteChris, I'll let you know if there's a reboot on this. If there is, I may run with S&W Complete, only because the PH, DMG and OSRIC are friggin heavy to tote around ;)
ReplyDeleteAwesome, though lugging around the AD&D textbooks wouldn't deter me, it's always been a status symbol ;-)
ReplyDeleteyeah, my ancient, beat up PH and DMG got some attention tonight, even from the guy who owns the location. it's funny, the "to-hit" charts in my DMG are very many shades of grey darker than the rat of the book - its easy to tell the most used pages ;)
ReplyDeleteer, "rest of the book" - wish i could edit comments ;)
ReplyDeleteI'd have been there, if I lived even remotely in your area. :P
ReplyDeleteBetter luck next time.
Erik, have you reviewed S&W Complete? I'm currently running LL's Advanced Edition, but I *am* pretty curious about S&W C. I haven't seen a whole lot out there that gives me a good sense of what it's like or what differentiates it from the AEC.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Too bad NYC is sooooooo far from Los Angeles. ;)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck next weekend!
@Dan Lawson - its a well-done game, but the fact that there's no free version and future print availability is questionable (since its Frog God Games and they don't seem to make keeping things in print part of their business model) I'd say you are much better off with one of the myriad of other options out there. Even S&W Core is a much better route in my opinion.
