Kickstarters That Make Me Ask: "Why?" - Busty Barbarian Bimbos (RPG)

Sometimes there's an RPG product in the works that makes you think. No, not in an enlightened way. It makes you think: "What the fuck were they smoking to think that this is in remotely good taste?" Then, thinking further, you realize "ah, so this is meant to be the opposite of good taste." Which doesn't mean it won't suck, but does mean it is more likely to suck than not.

Busty Barbarian Bimbos is one of those games. It also happens to be a Kickstarter project that has nearly funded. I'm guessing bad taste sells. Where are the legions of feminists aghast at this Kickstarter project whose four main attributes spell out SLUT (Slap, Legs, Uhm and Tits)?

Somehow I suspect Macho Women With Guns pulled off the campy flavor a bit better than Busty Barbarian Bimbos will.

That all being said, the price point on this project is sweet - you get a printed softcover copy for $15 shipped.

I wonder if it includes any real life samples ;)

edit: there is an earlier version of the PDF available for free from their site. It looks well laid out and the system is simple and intuitive. Obviously haven't read the whole thing yet, but at first glance I am pleasantly surprised.

  1. I am not sure why this is anymore "bad taste" than games that focus on horror or warfare. In those you play a game with horrifying acts or performing them.

It's fantasy, not real life. Just because some of them are flashing skin does not make it "bad taste" ...unless you have issues separating RL from fantasy.

  2. Why? Because they can. Just like in Jurrasic Park, they only thought about the fact that they could do it and not about whether they SHOULD do it. What enables such tripe? Hmm, Kickstarter. It's all Kickstarter's fault!! Plus, they probably decided to provide fatbeards with simultaneous RPG and fap material. Why keep them separate when you can combine both types of wish fulfillment?

  3. Upon checking out the Kickstarter, the game actually seems pretty funny...now that I've explored their intentions. Interesting, even clever, concept.

  4. In for $15. All it's missing is a way to play *strip* BBB. "You took a point of damage from that goblin. Lose the bra."

  5. Comments like "I wonder if it includes any real life samples" are more troubling to me than this forthright little Kickstarter.

Both pale before the pinup marketing of Kingdom Death.

    1. If you failed to see my attempt of humor there (hell, I even included "winky smiley face") I can't help you.

That all being said, the earlier version of the BBB PDF they have linked on their site ( http://pub.burrowowl.net/busty-barbarian-bimbos-103/ ) looks remarkably well laid out and the system is dead simple

  6. Why is it that RPGs have to be in good taste? This seems to come up a lot at RPG.net, games are sexist, blah blah blah.

I mean, they probably are. But so what? A lot of things are sexist in the other way. Like say, fiction. Urban Fantasy like Twilight (and worse) is essentially female power fantasy like Conan and his ilk were male. It's pretty much driven out all other types of fantasy in bookstores. Why is that okay and this not? Heck, that 50 Shades of Grey book started off as Twilight fanfic, that's essentially the equivalent of the Gor novels, only like a billion times more popular.
