Most of us have or had one. The module that you can bring out at a moment's notice when the regular DM doesn't show or when the group decides they want to kick off something new. It's the adventure you know like the back of your hand.
For me that module was Under Illefarn. I must have used it to kick off at least 3 or 4 campaigns during my college years. I certainly got my money's worth from it.
It had a local setting and a few points of interest, the town of Daggerford and of course the already named Ruins of Illefarn.
So, did you or do you now have a got to adventure, and if so, what is it?
Tower in the Wasteland v2

I recently asked my patrons what posts deserved a sequel and Tower in the
Wasteland was one of the first replies. So here's an updated version of

B1 -- In Search of the Unknown
ReplyDeleteB2 -- Keep on the Borderlands
B5 -- Horror on the Hill
CM1 -- Test of the Warlords (high level domain oriented play)
T1: The Village of Hommlet.
ReplyDeleteB2: Keep on the Borderlands
My two gotos for any startup almost every time.
UK2 The Sentinel and UK3 The Gauntlet.
ReplyDeleteMaybe since I've run it recently, but B2 would do. And if you start with U1, you're busy for a few adventure's worth of play.
For low level D&D: B1 In Search of the Unknown.
ReplyDeleteYep, B1 for me too.
ReplyDeleteThe Book of Ruins (Judges Guild)
ReplyDeleteT1 The Village of Hommlet
B1 In Search of the Unknown
B2 Keep on the Borderlands
X2 Castle Amber
Tegel Manor (Judges Guild)
I'd say probably Keep on the Borderlands, Against the Cult of the Reptile God and the Secret of Bone Hill are the top three.
ReplyDeleteT1 The Village of Hommlet and U1 the Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh
ReplyDeleteI have run Eye of the Serpent many times. I have also run The Gem and the Staff when I need a 1 on 1 adventure, which occurred quite often in my early days of DMing.
ReplyDeleteRecntly, I somewhat unexpectedly found X10 Red Arrow, Black Shield to be a good starter module for those that are bored of just running into a dungeon.
B4 - The Lost City
ReplyDeleteB2 - Keep on the Borderlands
Of the modules that I've used more than once and would enjoy using again, my favorite is B4: The Lost City.
ReplyDeleteOf the modules that I've only used once but would like to use again, my favorite is Tomb of the Iron God.
B4 - The Lost City
ReplyDeleteS1 (eight times. Yeah I know... )
Strangely enough: X2 Castle Amber!!
ReplyDeleteThe Desert of Desolation series. I've run it a couple times and it's always fun:
ReplyDeleteI3 - Pharaoh
I4 - Oasis of the White Palm
I5 - Lost Tomb of Martek
I have used B3: Palace of the Silver Princess several times and it was the first module I owned. Later I used U1: The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh to kick off several one-offs and one campaign.
ReplyDeleteSecert of Bone Hill
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of Under Illefarn, and mixing in The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh at the same time, setting it in the lizard marsh just outside of Daggerdale.
ReplyDeleteI could run B2 on a moment's notice. I only can't do that for B1 because I haven't had a copy in far too many years.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the game I've run most would be Traveller, and for that, I could run "Exit Visa" or "Shadows" with a minimum of fuss. Same goes for "The Werewolf Disease". But I think that my go-to would be "The Chamax Plague". I will have to find a way to run "Duneraiders", which I love, more often.
Caverns of Thracia or Village of Hommelet
ReplyDeleteN4 Treasure Hunt or some home-brew variant thereof. All campaigns commence as 0-level nothings rising like shooting stars to fame and glory.
