I've gotten a decent amount of feedback about a possible OSR themed podcast. There seems to be an interest in one, which is damn cool.
I didn't plan to be the one hosting it, but there seems to be some interest in that too - God knows who would want to hear my New York accent on a semi-regular basis but hey, not my problem ;)
There does appear to be a huge learning curve in getting this right, so I'm not going to do a "GMS" and give a date (and then another and yet another), as this shit may never happen. Then there is the software, hardware, evening wear - it took me years to become an effective and hopefully entertaining blogger - it will take me months (at least) to figure out how to do a barely passable podcast.
I do believe I have enough friends in the OSR to ensure there would be a constant stream of interesting guests - and I have some cool thoughts on that too.
Alright - time for research and a time sink check ;)

Please don't chatter on about beer.
ReplyDeleteif i was drinking one now, it would be all over my computer screen - well done ;)
DeleteSounds like a fun project. Good luck and have fun.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to it! Let me know if you need a hand with the editing and production. I have many years experience and tools too.
ReplyDeletei may very well reach out - let me first see how deep a hole I am digging ;)
DeleteHeh...obviously you are not busy enough. I feel sorry for middle-age guys who go back to their childhood hobbies and take them to a tragicomically bizarre and usually serious manner......wait...never mind...good luck with the podcast that I am destined to listen too :)
ReplyDeleteZach
well, I can retire in 2 years, so I need to get my hobby time sinks all lined up ;)
DeleteWell with all that free time you will have I am going to expect a feature film in addition to a tony award winning play...Guys & Gargoyles? West Greyhawk Story? The world demands it :)
DeleteI'll probably return to doing more Saturday Knight Special pieces about my rookie days in the South Bronx - I know too many people in film and media to ever want to be a part of that ;)
DeleteI'll have to give Feltothraxis his own segment :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be listening. Save or Die is the only one I listen to these days but I'd be down for a Tavern Talk. . .:)
ReplyDeleteThis might be the one podcast I actually listen to on a regular basis. The others are catch-as-catch can based on the specific topic.
ReplyDeleteif I do this, i want to do it right, right out of the box. Maybe not on a technical level (i'm sure I'll be fucking that up), but on a content level.
DeleteI want guests, but i want them as part of the chatter, not as an interview
shit - I really want to do this - nowI need to learn how...
While I've done the interview thing, I can certainly help on some aspects, or at least describe what I've done for the Firing Squad. There are a few ways to go, depending on if you want to livestream it (such as on Google Hangouts) or if you want to record, edit, and release. Snaggit actually will capture video locally, but doesn't do the camera-view switching thing that Hangouts does. On the other hand, you can do a Hangout and capture the video with Snaggit, if you don't want to live stream. Options, options.
DeleteIf you want a guest or co-chatterer, I'd be keen on helping out.
ReplyDeleteHey Eric, I do a weekly podcast about audio recording (as I've mentioned before). Normally its me and my co-hort and we do it pretty much unscripted, much like the twit podcasts. If find it fun and off the cuff, but it can be difficult if you don't have enough ammo to keep going. The only consistent thing is the intro and outro that are pre-written. As you mentioned you would have a constant stream of things to discuss. (just going back thru this blog would be a excellent start). As far as recording there are a few options out there, I would suggest getting a decent USB headset, and make sure that you are only running skype and your recording program when recording, as you will get less dropouts etc. As far as hosting that's whole other issue. I know you can do uploads to soundcloud, but space is limited, although it could be a start.
