It's rare that I step away from gaming over here at The Tavern. This is a roleplaying blog, and the posts obviously reflect that. I make an exception yearly for 9-11. Today is going to be one of those rare exceptions.
Yesterday two officers of the NYPD were executed in their patrol car. We almost lost a third officer last night when a perp put a gun in an officer's face but the firearm was empty of rounds, as the perp had just tried shooting at someone else (the reason the cops responded.)
My mind is far from games and gaming at the moment.
My thoughts and prayers are with officers Liu and Ramos and their families.
My fear is this is just the beginning.

ReplyDeleteBeen praying for all officers since the whole Mike Brown "uber-victim" thing was run with by the Press. Right now I feel that the situation for our police officers is analogous to how our veterans were treated after Vietnam.

DeleteBut that does not detract from the fact that Micheal Brown was unarmed man killed by police. The officer made a decision to fire at a young man who was 150 feet away. The eye witness accounts are conflicting, but the forensics are not.
Don't make this terrible tragedy a narrative for the justification for police killing unarmed civilians.
Marty, if you deny the atmosphere that is running amok with the backing of our politicians, with "protesters" just last week chanting "what do we want? dead cops! when do we want it ? now!" in NYC, you are missing the larger picture.

BTW, your "disturbed" gunman is a career criminal with 19 arrest across 2 states. He ran with the Black Guerrilla Family gang, the same Baltimore gang that declared 2 weeks ago they were going to kill cops.
So no, it is not simply a sad, tragic act of a man with a disturbed mind.

ReplyDeleteThey died doing their jobs--protecting and defending fellow human beings. In one sense not a big deal--good men have been doing that since the dawn of civilization. In another sense a huge deal that in each and every case cries out to Heaven in imitation of the justice and love of God. Who will protest for them?
