Corgi Tunnels & Trolls Solos - Perfect Compact Books for the T&T Player

I wasn't able to get to the post office this past weekend as I had hoped, but that didn't stop Rachel from raiding out storage room for some of my Tunnels & Trolls collection. Thankfully, she stopped at the first box ;)

Personally, I love the Corgi edition of T&T 5e. Not because they renamed a bunch of silly named spells to be less silly (but left Yessa Massa intact - go figure), but because the size of the books makes it so convenient and I'm always surprised at how well paper that is a step above newsprint has survived so well for nearly 30 years. Well, that and how well focused the character generation rules are in the solos as compared to the complete 5e rules.

I'm serious. All you need to create a T&T character is provided in the Corgi Solos books (Rogues and Wizard-Warriors are omitted, but Rogues can be explained easily by the GM if needed and WWs should be omitted in any case.)

You can get the Corgi Solos direct from Flying Buffalo. I suggest you do so, as the pricing is better than anything I've see on Ebay. The Core Rules from Corgi are a bit harder to track down, but worth it.

  1. T&T doesn't get the love that I think it deserves. There is still a small, but active community run by Ken St. Andre over at Trollhalla http://trollhalla.com/outer-sanctum/ . I can't wait for 8th edition. :-)

  2. John, I've stopped waiting on dT&T - the process is not one that I find promising.

5e reedited would be my pick at this point ;)

    1. They will have it done, I am certain of that (FB books have always been slow but certain)...I am more forgiving, though, as I've known Ken, Liz, Rick and co. since the 80's and have a very strange old tie to T&T through the fanzine days. That said...the impatient, cobwebbed, dark corner of my mind entirely gave up on DT&T about eight months ago.

    2. Erik, I'm with you on 5th edition. 7/7.5 never quite did it for me. I figure that one of these days, I'll go to the mailbox and find dT&T, and be pleasantly surprised. The corgi books are really nice. In fact, my introduction to T&T was through the Corgi rulebook, which was nice an easy to carry around in my backpack in college. Sadly, I've lost track of that little gem.

  3. The Corgi version is my fave print of Fifth Ed. I love the Corgi solo rules. I stated a number of times over at (far less echo chamber-y place for T&T discussion than Trollhalla) Vin's Trollbridge forums that one could very quickly and easily run a rather full campaign on the Corgi solo rules alone.
I considered making it the basis of my own clone for some time since it's far less verbose than Fifth Edition. A good thing, too. Fifth Edition is fun to read but there's far too much the slog through for such simple and straightforward rules (which is also why I prefer the UK 1st ed. as the absolute best version of the rules ever).

  4. I have 5E and 7.5. I'd like to have the Corgi version for collectible purposes, as 7.5 suits me fine - and it's also digest-sized.

  5. Still have never seen a copy of any edition of T&T. Very curious about it. Sounds more fun than D&D to me.
