I got this email. It looked too good to be true, and it was:
24 HOUR BLOWOUT ADVENTURE SALE!27 12 to 16 page adventures in the basket.
We've updated our online store to match the rest of our websites and to celebrate that, we have put select adventures -- in print -- at only .99 cents in our SPECIALS section! 40 of our adventures are on sale for one day only! Some reduced as much as 80%! Act fast as this special offer expires in 24 hours (Thursday at noon).
The Troll Lords!
$26.73 for the adventures. $43.22 to ship.
I probably would have gone along at $15 to ship, but this is ridiculous. You can probably stick them all in a priority mail box and send it for 12 bucks and the US Postal Service even pays for the box.
Ah well. Didn't really need them anyhow.
edit - shipping appears to have been fixed - 6 bucks and change for 23 items (lost some from the cart in the hours between this post and getting back on the computer)
heres the options:
Eric,
ReplyDeleteThis is clearly an error of their webstore. I just added their C&C starter pack to my cart, with two hardcover books and three adventures and the shipping came up as only $5.22 to get to me in Maine. Shoot them an email I'm sure the issue will be promptly corrected.

DAMN.. that's just the shipping price? I wonder if that cost was supposed to include the purchase.. that would make more sense..
ReplyDeleteI can second Christopher D, I've bought several large orders from their webstore in the past and the shipping has never been anything like this, there must be some sort of malfunction.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat. Shipping my castle keepers guide and Codex of Airde only cost about $15 for both in a single box.
ReplyDeleteThat's my experience all the time with everything that isn't on Amazon these days, being in Brazil. DTRPG shipping always costs more than the books, for instance! :(
ReplyDeleteThat looks like the kind of shipping I have to pay from the US to the UK!
ReplyDeleteHmm. Per the USPS calculator, 10 lbs Media Mail cross country = $7 and change.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely something hinky in the shipping calculator.
I just ordered 6 modules and had no problem:
ReplyDeleteITEMS $5.94
SHIPPING $3.22
TAX $0.00
TOTAL $9.16
Assuming .3 lbs for 27 items, the media mail should've been $8. Was the weight off for one of the items?
ReplyDeleteOption two is to go back and reorder in two halves, there might be a 'panic and overcharge if x number of items are exceeded" thing.
That sounds like international shipping rates. Which are basically preventing me from buying stuff from small companies in the USA unless I REALLY want the goodies.
ReplyDeleteErik, I hope you'll forgive me overloading your name on G+, but I understand Tim Burns of TLG has addressed this issue. As I said on G+, I wanted to "help out two gaming personalities I respect."
ReplyDeleteEric,
ReplyDeleteTim Burns of the Trolls, on his google+ account said he was told of your issue and said " I've since fixed it so that there are no handling fees on anything in the sale." Might be worth your time to put the order through again, if you're still interested.
-Chris
saw, edited and purchased (less a few that left my cart in the meantime)
DeleteErik,
ReplyDeletePer Tim Burns, it looks like a few items were incorrectly out of stock shortly after the sale started. If you can edit your order, that might help get those 6 elusive items back in your cart. I hope so! Another option would be to reach out to Tim directly so he can fix it up for you.
I get the initial frustration. Paizo does this all the time. Super cheap prices and then they kick you in the groin with shipping. I'm happy the Troll Lords fixed it. Good group of guys.
ReplyDeleteI do post corrections when applicable, in this case both an update to the original post AND a new post showcasing the sale and corrected shipping.
DeleteAs for me "jumping the gun" and not contacting the Trolls directly (as was suggested elsewhere) I've seen this tactic before with online sales. I assumed (wrongly it appears) that the high shipping in this case was one of those instances.
I don't know if any paid the higher shipping costs nor if they did, were they refunded the difference. If any know the answer to that, feel free to update us.
The Trolls are, from what I've seen over the years, good guys heavily in need of an editor / spellchecker ;)
Now you know how your neighbors to the north feel. The ridiculous shipping charges to cross an invisible line plus the abysmal exchange rate right now means no physical products for me. :-(
