The ranks of
The Taverners can be scary, at least when they identify a What The F@CK? Kickstarter, and this one is a class all by itself.
Doesn't the above pic just make you want you to run out and grab a copy of
Courts and Castles? No? Why not?
How about 79 pledge levels? No, I didn't count but
+Rick Hull did.
79 pledge levels, and not one actually gets you a copy of the game.
So, what is the game about?
I have no idea what was held back. I couldn't justify reading the 19 paragraphs that followed. He says he simplified it from an earlier version, so it's complex but not head scratching. I have my doubts.
Name a serf for a buck or a city-state for $150, you still don't get a copy of the game. Which is probably best.
I'm still stuck on 79 pledge levels. I don't even know if the limited pledges (as each pledge level is limited) would allow the goal of $3,690 to be met. God only knows I'm not doing that math...
Is that the sequel to the Cones of Dunshire?
ReplyDeleteI wish we knew how long this one's been up, so we would know how many days it's been sitting on $0 raised.
ReplyDeleteLess than a day, I think. If I'm not mistaken they've got a 60-day cap on it, and it shows 59 days remaining.
DeleteOh! $5 funded! $3,685 to go! ($3,690 seems awfully precise...)
... ah, that might be why. I couldn't be arsed to add them up, but I suspect (from what I see so far) that $3,690 is the sum total of the limited rewards.
DeleteAs in every reward level is limited.
"Semi-evil, semi-genius" indeed.
By my quick math all the limited pledge levels add up to $3840
ReplyDelete....which means he has to have roughly a 96% purchase-rate of all the limited levels. Basically he has to fill everything up to the next-to-last $150 to make his goal.
DeleteI got $3836, but I was doing a lot of it in my head so I might have missed four bucks somewhere. Either way, he can only just barely make it by filling out all or nearly all of the pledge levels. I don't think it will work out for him.
DeleteThink it's because you counted the "Left of" instead of the total available for the "Name a Guard of Emeralds" level. Currently 2 left of 3.
DeleteA serf is the equivalent to a commoner...that annoys me.

ReplyDeleteTry the Bio,
ReplyDelete"I was born in a rustic farming town in the 20th Century, and suffered many tragedies at the hands of the Prussian Empire. I was a lonely, little boy with my head in the clouds, one hand on the remote, and the other buried in the front of my pants. I knew I couldn't stay a boy forever and had to mature into a graceful, sassy, and independent young woman like my father before me. I spent many years working like a dog, fighting several tours in Vietnam and Iraq simultaneously, and teaching the Dalai Lama everything he knows. Then, in a freak accident involving a lightning strike, genetically modified spider, gamma radiation, a few drinks too many, and a bet with a dying Norweigan man (who later turned out to be the Scandinavian Devil), I realized my true destiny was to make money selling my art. I prayed to almighty Cthulu for guidance and he told me to beg internet strangers for help instead, so here I am."
I want a game set in this world...
DeleteThe goal is just to produce a better prototype so it can be shopped around to game companies.
ReplyDeleteIf that's his goal (are you DPbeads?), then he didn't think it through very well. He needs to give backers a reason to back him, and he really isn't. Four grand isn't easy to just hold out one's hand and have it fall in. And he wants it in exchange for naming rights that will get lost in the shuffle? Nope. Not to mention, as pretty much every worldbuilder knows, if there's just a bunch of random names with no identifiable structure, the final product will almost certainly look like crap, because it will look like no effort went into it. Which would be true in this case.
DeleteMan, you couldn't make this stuff up!
