I know there's some pushback with the cover art of the 3rd printing of Swords & Wizardry Complete Kickstarter.
Is it my preferred cover art? No. I'm firmly in the Otis camp.
You can, however, still support the 3rd printing of Swords & Wizardry Kickstarter AND get the 2nd printing of the Swords & Wizardry Complete rulebook if you prefer.
Here's how:
1 - Choose the Pledge Level of $1 - PDF Backer. (Top pledge level on the right hand side of the KS page)
2 - Actually back for $31 - The 2nd printing of Swords & Wizardry Complete is available as an add on for $30 (at the Frog God Website it's $34.99)
3 - At the end of the KS Campaign, you'll get a Backerkit Notification. Choose the 2nd printing of Swords & Wizardry Complete as your add on.
Done!
Personally, I'm looking forward to the stretch goals and may be interested in an add on or two.
Really good idea. I'm going to change from the HC of the third printing to just getting another copy of the 2nd printing.

DeleteI doubt it's something they'd do since they are definitely pushing the new cover. Maybe a limited print run with the classic cover would be possible. I'll write to Zach
DeleteIt would probably need to be done as a pledge level; just like the Collector Backer pledge level. Because they will have to do a limited print run, which means it would cost more to print each book.
DeleteSo unfortunately at this point, if you want the interior with a different cover, you have to get the Leather option at $225.
So it's doable, but will they do it?
I still think the new cover is awful, specially since they are sticking with the standard Swords and Wizardry logo that doesn't match it at all. LOVE the interior art and design, though! Beautiful! I wish the cover was more like the interior art, with actual characters, monsters and adventure. Will get the PDF for sure. ;)
ReplyDeleteHas anyone thought to ask the artist of the new cover what the painting is of? It looks like some sort of plant creature that was magically brought to life. Something that should be in an S&W monster manual.

I asked Stacy about it, Ricky. She did clearly state that she hesitates to voice her own interpretation of it, but very generally it is an abstraction of the skeleton of an evil thing (dragon, etc) with bloody pieces still attached and wicked, thorny vines coming out of its eye sockets surrounding by death moths.

It was meant to be taken as Venger standing in front of a brick wall with a microphone. That is, a joke. I tried stand-up comedy a couple of times. Wasn't for me, but I still like to make people laugh.

I'm canceling my pledge after the latest Kickstarter update. It's obvious to me that this is an identity politics play more than just a cool product. The reason I think this is because they sure are spending a lot of time talking about how progressive and how many barriers they are breaking down compared to any discussion on how they will actually reach new gamers, younger gamers, and more women. Other than the fact there is a woman project maker and women artists and I guess step 3 is new audience that wouldn't play before? No discussion on trying to speak to younger gamers or do a promotional push towards different gamers.

I didn't cancel my pledge. I posted to the topic and FGG gave me a very nice reply. I was worried just having a point of view that wasn't a slap o n the back would get me murdered over there. Maybe it's from my time over at RPG.net but I am really happy and glad about how they replied. They treated me with positive intent and were thoughtful
