Yesterday my brother Stewart Wieck died. He had just finished a light fencing workout and then fell over. All attempts to resuscitate him failed. It's still unknown what caused it; we'll know more in a few days. Something catastrophic in his heart perhaps.
Stewart was 49, ate right, exercised, a specimen of good health... it's all just.. stunning that he could possibly, suddenly be gone.
He was my brother, my best friend, my business partner since we started White Wolf in high school. He was an incredible human being, full of kindness and empathy, fun and artistic passion.
I was supposed to grow old drinking and gaming with him. Now that will have to wait for heaven or Valhalla or whatever comes next.
And of course, leave it to Stewart to die with a sword in his hand.
No need for flowers, no memorial service has been arranged yet, we're just taking things a step at a time.
Anyone involved with Stewart's publishing projects feel free to reach out to me in a few weeks.
Such a loss, too many good people gone.
ReplyDeleteI remember as this fresh face hawking the very first color issuer of White Wolf the summer of June of 1988 Loved talking to and watching his impact on the gaming world we have a true great one who would have continued addinga depth to the industry that now we will never know.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry. The World of Darkness has been central to my life since I was 14. Knowing that one of the individuals who put so much of themselves into that world has passed on brings be great sadness. I will be thinking of you and your brother.

Oh man, I'm so sorry. I remember when we lost my favourite rpg author 22 years ago, and I have to say, it's a bit the same feeling. I do hope you'll manage to keep his memory alive by bringing some of his projects to life... I just saw him yesterday as one of the backers of Torg. It's really a loss... All my thoughts to his friends and family.

ReplyDeleteI've worked with Stewart for years on Pendragon projects. He was a noble, generous, and supportive soul. I'm deeply saddened by this news.
ReplyDeleteJust heard about it. Very sad news, indeed. I can only give his family and friends my most heartfelt condolences. Thanks to him, I started playing King Arthur Pendragon RPG so I'll always owe him. May he find a place at the Round Table wherever he is.

ReplyDeleteDeeply affected by this tragic loss. I've been working with Stewart closely for years on the King Arthur Pendragon RPG and just exchanged emails with him a couple of weeks ago on some work I'd done for the Prince Valiant game. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Such a loss.
