New Release? -Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Fourth Edition Rulebook PRE-ORDER

When is a new release NOT a "new release"? When its a "pre-order".

Further question: What is the point of a "PDF Pre-order"? I understand why you do it with physical releases - you want to get a feel for the demand a product may have and place your print order as a publisher appropriately. PDFs don't have that issue. Their number is potentially infinite, yet they take up no space, have no built-in print cost and have no storage overhead. They are virtual books, not physical copies.

So yes, I'm scratching my head a bit with the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Fourth Edition Rulebook PRE-ORDER. At 30 bucks it better be virtual gold...

Edit: So, there is one review (and 22 total ratings of this Pre-order. The review mentions access to a preview copy as do many comments. The text on the main sales page makes no mention of any "Preview Copy" to those that pre-order. Strange to omit that.)
YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD THE FINAL VERSION OF THIS PDF IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS A PRE-ORDER FOR THE WARHAMMER FANTASY ROLEPLAY FOURTH EDITION RULEBOOK – THE PDF WILL BE UPLOADED SHORTLY AND YOU WILL RECEIVE AN EMAIL TELLING YOU IT IS READY TO DOWNLOAD.
Can’t put it down, can you? You know what’s in here. You’ve seen them. The twisted ones, the arrogant ones, the lost ones. Oh, you’d like to walk away and life be all cake and daisies, but you know you’re going here instead. You’ll try to convince yourself it’s because you’re greedy for the loot, or can’t resist a fight, but we all know the truth. So ready your sword, clean your pistol, and watch out for that dog – he might be small but he’s unreasonably vicious.
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay takes you back to the Old World. Get the gang together, create your (anti)heroes, and set off to make your way through the vile corruption, scheming plotters and terrifying creatures intent on destruction.
The Fourth Edition Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Rulebook contains everything you need for grim and perilous roleplaying adventures in the Old World.
Yep, even pre-orders can make The Tavern affiliate monies ;)

  1. I'm not even sure why it says pre-order anymore, the actual book is available for download. The problem here is how Cubicle 7 does theri print+PDF sales; when you buy the physical book they send you a drivethru code for the PDF version. In this case, you're still pre-ordering the print edition. A few weeks ago they announced this one was delayed past release, sent out a code for a discount in their store as apology, then subsequently sent out a placeholder "pre-order" with promises the actual PDF would be up imminently, which it was about a week later iirc. Someone at Cubicle 7 needs to go in to their page listing and edit it, although maybe they aren't yet until the print book gets released.

  2. The book you can download isn’t the final game. It’s a beta. Rules aren’t finalized, and from my understanding there have already been changes since that went on sale. There’s a fairly massive thread at rpg.net discussing the ups and downs.

  3. I have skimmed my pre-order copy. Thus far what I see feels very much like the 1st edition/2nd edition I remember. I was just happy instead of having to wait longer to see anything I got a pdf to peruse. Anymore, I usually take the fulfillment date of anything and add 6 months. That way I can be pleasantly surprised if it arrives on time.

  4. I see Gotrek on the cover but no Felix. So, nah.

  5. I spent enough on Zweihander so not sure about this purchase

  6. I was just going to say, good timing for Zwiezenhammer. If that had come out just after Warhammer 4e, it probably wouldn't have sold half as well.

    1. I was just saying to a friend who knows some Cubicle 7 folks that after Zweihander beating them to market and winning best RPG at the ENnies, C7 is going to have a harder time making this edition profitable. Especially with the ongoing release delays.

Missing a GenCon release was a ball dropped to be sure.

  7. I like Cubicle 7 products, but their website management is very poor. They can have different availability in Europe vs. the US, and many times they have products for sale at Amazon or your FLGS that they don't even list on their site. Other than that, they're great, customer service and appreciation of their customer base, at least for me, has been fantastic.

  8. This one has given me pause from the get go, and I’m a huge Warhammer fan. I’ll put down money for it when I actually have it in front of me (at the game store).
