Free Map Mondays - Squarehex Sampler Pack Giveaway - US Only
For those following along at home, your bartender has been under the weather the past few days. Not sure I'll be able to finish putting together a decent map for today.
But have no fear, even if nothing comes to fruition tonight I do have something to give away.
Digging out some boxes that have sat in a corner of the living room, I found a few spares of the SquareHex Sampler Pack. You can grab it directly through the SquareHex blog for:
I'm giving away a complete set, in the original packing, to one random commenter on this very post. US Only - sorry, but the shipping outside the states will kill me ;)
Your comment must tell our readers why you like drawing maps. Comment before 7 PM Eastern on Thursday, October 18th, 2018.
Remember, OSR Christmas is sneaking up and OSR Santa will need to start organizing soon ;)
Hi Erik. Ya got me backed into a corner because it's on record elsewhere that I hate drawing maps. BUT I'll tell you what I DO like to do: modifying maps. I love to find a map in a book, PDF or online that will roughly suit my purposes and bend, twist and modify the hell out of it.
ReplyDeleteActually, one thing I like about map-making is doing dice-drop dungeons. Dropping dice on a hex grid and making a dungeon out of that is oddly satisfying to me.
Well, there ya go. See you online. Buh-bye!
I like drawing maps because they fire up my imagination. When I look at a map I've drawn I suddenly see the sweeping vistas of the Lord of the Ring movies and it inspires me to create for my games.
ReplyDeleteI like collecting and drawing maps and dungeons because it's a good creative outlet for me.
ReplyDeleteI had several art classes in HS and Comm College and I wanted to be a landscape architect, but then computers hit the big time and I saw that as more my calling, at the time. Now it mapping and caves.
I like drawing maps for lots of reasons but lately I've done it w my daughter and it is cool world building w her
ReplyDeleteI like drawing maps, because a blank page is a terrible thing to waste...
ReplyDeleteI like drawings maps to reduce stress and lose weight.
ReplyDeleteI've always liked drawing maps. I used to copy out the map from the Hobbit, then started drawing it in my spiral notebook from memory when I got bored in class. Then I started drawing maps of my school, and my house, adding secret rooms and stairways. And this was all before D&D! I designed a cave where I would live, on the outskirts of a desert, where I could ride out into the dunes and race the wind. So why did I do it? I was creating worlds, and by drawing them out I could share them with others. It's a way to convert ideas into something tangible, and just a map itself is a source of adventures in gaming.
ReplyDeleteRight now I enjoy drawing maps as it gives my brain a chance to rest drom studying and I don't need to leave my desk. It's also great seeing a dungeon or ooen area come together from nothing.
ReplyDeleteI don't like drawing maps but I like coloring them.
ReplyDeleteMap making is one way that I can condense a lot of information down into a compact format. Each map tells a story, even if it is a hex crawl.
ReplyDeleteI like drawing really shitty maps, then sending them to Ian to make them look pretty.
ReplyDeleteI like to explore what goes into the dungeon. I tend to draw a little, plan a little, draw a little more. It's very organic.
ReplyDeleteI like drawing maps as a way to put another world on paper, so others can see it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a terrific idea. Im working on my campaign being my local players have dnd 5e but i like bringing in osr elements and goodies. this looks to be one of those puzzle creativity approach methods using visual elements
ReplyDeleteI like drawing maps because chicks think its hot.
ReplyDeleteI love drawing maps as I am visual person. It helps me to think in terms of space first before I populate it with stuff for the players to interact.
ReplyDeleteCant say I LOVE mapping, but I enjoy it. I like the ability to organize the visuals, as well as it being a nice amount of prep.
ReplyDeletePlus, hex mapping forever.
Nifty, we are in the middle of a hex crawl right now and that seems like a great set of tools, so count me in please.
ReplyDeleteMaps provide the immersion necessary to fire the imagination synapses. With them players tend to be more involved and keeping in the game. Without them player’s minds tend to wander. I am also notorious for hiding “Easter Eggs” in my maps. So my regulars devote extra creativity when digesting my maps, and even if they are WAY off course, they provide insight for me to play off of when before there was not significant.
